This X-Men Evolution Rogue custom began its life as an X-Treme Rogue, unfortunately afflicted with some broken joints. It was fortuitously misassembled with the sleeveless arms of her long-haired variant to make this easier. The collar, shoulder pads, cuffs, & belt were added. https://mattthecatania.wordpress.com/20 ... rogue-one/
Shadow King was made from a movie Ares BAF with the fleece pried off. Googly eyes were glued into the sockets of Ares’s helm. I surgically recofigured it into Shadow King’s face. For not having a glorious David Thewlis moustache, I gouged out the stupid shadowy visage within the former helmet. His tongue was carved from a piece of resin & inserted through his new face aperture. The spikes were leftovers from some resin models. Klompen-size knight shoes were sculpted over Ares’s tiny bare feet. The original paint job was nice by Mattel standards, but I obscured it with coats of lovely metallic sapphire. https://mattthecatania.wordpress.com/20 ... ancels-tv/
Ocean Master is a repainted Justice League: Throne of Atlantis edition. I sculpted a belt over the painted-on one. They also egregiously stiffed Orm out of his trident, so one was fashioned from a dowel & tin can. https://mattthecatania.wordpress.com/20 ... ic-blonde/
To make Gotham's Riddler, I used the boil & pop method to swap Walter Peck’s head & hands for Edward Nygma’s. The hat was made from a domed piece of vinyl with a braided ring in the center left over from a model kit. The braid was excised & the remaining halves glued together. The seam was spackled over. The brim was cut from cardboard & the hatband from from paper. https://mattthecatania.wordpress.com/20 ... e-me-this/
I made a Gotham season 4 Barbara Kean from DST's figure & Mezco's Sand Saref. I was only able to get Babs’s head onto Sand Saref’s neck after I pried off her rigid hair. DST didn’t give her a full skull underneath, so I had to build that up. Her lapels were sliced off & a popped cardboard collar was affixed. I had to carve her décolletage in. Sand’s zipper is open too wide & low, so I couldn’t get it exactly right. To make it look like she’s wearing a bolero jacket, I glued a clear rubber band from a Star Wars Black figure beneath her bosom. Her arm stripes & vest were decoupaged from napkin & tissue. I also sanded off her necklace & wetsuit piping. Pant cuffs were made from a fortune cookie "fortune." I harnessed the power of knives to convert wedge heels into block heels! The embalming knife of King Balashi of Mesopotamia was forged from the broken handle of a transparent green cocktail sword, spackle, cardboard, & a sliver of plastic toy packaging. https://mattthecatania.wordpress.com/20 ... bara-kean/
For Tombstone's shortsleeved outfit, I glued on sleeve cuffs made from rest of the fortune cookie fortune I’d used on Barbara Kean the Stabby Queen. Then I painted his skin antique white. Since the bootstraps were too narrow to slide up around the tops of his shins, I just cut them off. Then I painted his shins downward glossy black to give the impression of boots rather than him wearing a onesie. https://mattthecatania.wordpress.com/20 ... tombstone/
The first move was to pry the pauldrons out of the cowl of Ronan the Accuser. Then I filled in the gaps. The shoulder pads were glued onto his bicep armor. Depending upon the position of the arms, this either looks fine or unnatural. I’m just happy to have unrestricted head & shoulder movement.
He’s done up with metallic Christmas green & metallic festive green. I sculpted the chest insignia to work with the flow of his armor. https://mattthecatania.wordpress.com/20 ... ccuse-you/
Thea "Speedy" Queen is a Civil War Scarlet Witch with the coat removed. I snipped off her hair until it was chin length. Her removable hood is cut from red felt covered in white glue & paint to keep its shape. It’s a tad too thick. I filled in the gaps in her heels. The laces are wires. Her fingers were bent & glued into position. Her mask is painted on.
Speedy’s jian was cut from a spare piece of brass from an airplane model. The base was wrapped with electrical tape to form a hilt. The ring pommel was snipped off a pineapple can pull tab. Its scabbard is cardboard.
The unused truncheon on her left leg is a broken paint brush. Her boot knife (that she only used to stab Athena) was whittled from a wooden drink stirrer. The superfluous darts in her thigh pouch are from a submarine model. All are sheathed in electrical tape.
Her bow is Katniss Everdeen’s recurve bow from The Hunger Games. Her “hero” arrow’s shaft is appropriately made from the plastic bowstring I cut off a Mattel Green Arrow so I could give it a functional string. The arrowhead is plastic & the feathers paper. It’s vaguely aerodynamic? Her quiver arrows are assorted sprues & paper. They can double as a flanged mace.
Her quiver was made from a pen cap with the Bic logo sanded off. I snapped off the stem & cut out the remaining protrusion. Its harness is a black bag tie that happened to be exactly the right length. https://mattthecatania.wordpress.com/20 ... toy-chest/
