My favorite thing Affleck directed was Gone Baby Gone. He's pretty good at adapting someone else's work.
I think Ben would be the perfect guy to direct a Green Arrow movie based on Mike Grell's The Longbow Hunters.

Well, seems like Gunn/Safran are drawing their inspiration for Ch 1 from famous, critically well-received comic runs/series...
The MCU does much of the same as well in terms of following/riffing on some of the top stories in their catalog. It just makes sense to do so, when you have 50+ years of "modern" comics to draw from, don't overthink it and crib from the best. So glad to see this might be the lesson that Gunn learned about running a cinematic universe.

I agree this may be the direction, although I question including the Flash due to Ezra Miller's incidents the last couple of years. I am highly suspicious that The Flash film is going to be used as part of a reboot if they want to keep some of the past and reset others.

I think jettisoning Gadot would be a mistake, I think she is very good in the role.

I am wondering if Vandal Savage will end up being the "Big Bad" - or maybe a cabal of villains (Savage, Al Ghul, Luthor, Grodd) working together to control the world, using the more standard villains as cannon fodder. I think it would be a mistake to go with an existential threat like Thanos - they need to go in a different direction than big bad is too powerful...

Heh. The Light has been done so well in Young Justice, I wondered if they wouldn't want to delve into it again (who am I kidding, this is DC, worrying about consistency is never their concern, more Batmen and Jokers!), so didn't want to directly call it that.

And the whole Legion of Doom history with Superfriends may make having a super-villain team seem too contrived or campy, maybe.

But Savage, Al Ghul and Luthor would be formidable in terms of storytelling options if not played as crazy people but calm, manipulative, ruthless, and focused, with resources that would require a team to bring down.

DC's big problem, to me, will be doing something interconnected that doesn't seem like it is copying Marvel, which is why I thought Darkseid should never have been the big bad for the Justice League as for non-fans he would seem like another Thanos.

Well that’s what the current “Dawn of DC” initiative is about in DC Comics. The Light. Starting slow in Dark Crisis #7 and Action #1051, building up a bit to Free Comic Book Day where it appears to get rolling.

Thanks for that info, Mr. Tomorrow. I am not up on current DC comics so wasn't sure The Light was even in the main continuity, or just part of the Young Justice show.

Those guys are excellent because they're the answer to DC's reputation as being tales of 'gods amongst men' - make the 'mere' men the dangerous ones.

Ugh, goddamn Grant Morrison. DC's Silver Age is an abomination of crap that should be seen as the nadir of American comics it is and should remain.
The Teen Titans, Legion of Super-Heroes, Metal Men, Justice League of America, Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Guy Gardner, the Green Lantern Corps, Barry Allen, Ray Palmer, Aquaman, Adam Strange, Barbara Gordon, Challengers of the Unknown, Deadman, Katar Hol, Animal Man, Zatanna, Metamorpho, the Creeper, and I could go on. You may or may not like the stories and art, but there is NO disputing the fact that DC's Silver Age is of huge historical significance to the history of comics.

And it should be mentioned that it was the success DC was having with Justice League of America that made Martin Goodman, publisher of Atlas Comics, ask his editor in chief, Mr. Stan Lee, to create a team of superheroes. Stan and Jack Kirby created the Fantastic Four and from there sprang the Marvel Universe.

I'll say it again: Thank goodness James Gunn is the one who's charge of creating this cinematic universe.

And I REALLY hope he asks Grant Morrison to write a screenplay or two, particularly for JLA and Brave and the Bold.

Chapter 1 seems off to a bad start. Hopefully once they're through the projects that were already in post production when the new execs took over, there's a big change in quality and attendance.

Not sure what Warner should expect for interest at this point, they all but announced the new Shazam was something of a leftover and to just wait until the real DC Cinematic Universe gets going again (or at least wait for the Flash film, which I feel they marketed much than Shazam so far). Even if they intend to keep Shazam as part of the DCCU, it certainly doesn't appear to be leading to a Shazam vs Black Adam film for instance.

Chapter 1 hasn't started yet not until Creature Commandos, and not cinematiclly until Superman: Legacy

Ah, I'd taken his comments about the next four movies to mean they were included. But yeah, I guess hit snooze for another two years then.

Yup. Shazam 2 is a financial loss. Even with it's low budget, it will still lose major money at this pace.

Interesting looking back at the last wave of DC films;

Birds of Prey - Flop.

Wonder Woman 1984 - Flop

The Suicide Squad - Flop

The Batman - Moderate Success

Black Adam - Flop

Shazam 2 - Flop

If The Flash does well (thanks to Batman), I wonder what the message WB will take from that.

I dunno that TSS is a flop flop since it ultimately got Gunn both the PM series and his current job. One wonders how much of PatMan's success was due to people being thankful it's not part of the Snyderverse.
