I'm no tax expert, but I would think that since we're getting a product in return for giving them money, there would be sales tax involved; most states prefer to define a sale like that, lol. This is my first Kickstarter experience, so I can't say one way or another on how previous ones may have handled it. It was probably included in the price if you don't remember paying separate sales tax after the fact. Do other campaigns normally send out an amount due for shipping once rewards are ready?christianpyro wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 3:30 pmThat may be the case.offrampclimber wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 3:18 pm
I'm assuming the shipping charge will also include sales tax, so that may be why it seems high.
But should Kickstarters include taxes? Technically we didn't buy a product, we donated money to help fund a project. And they are sending product as a reward, There is no guarantee of product, Kickstarter makes that very clear.
I don't feel like I've ever paid taxes on a Kickstarter before, but maybe other projects included that in the price and I just never see that aspect ...
I did want to say that I noticed the amount due on the order total in Backerkit has been updated for me, though. It was previously showing $65 for 9 builders and the 2-pack, but has been updated to a more exact number at $50.11. Still don't see a way to send payment, so I'm just hoping they will charge automatically to the payment method already saved.
