Re: New MOTU Kids' Line
Yargh, they look quite, quite awful. One thing is to be modern, or in line with the times, and the other is try to make everything look identical. This looks like a fusion between Power Players and the modern Max Steel.
I mean, if the faces were properly painted, maybe they would be passable.
Sadly, nowadays, something for kids is synonymous with something "preschool". Toy figures seem to be only for kids aged 6 and less.

Re: New MOTU Kids' Line
I think the assumption, and honestly it's probably not inaccurate, is that kids over the age of 7 or so nowadays are quicker to move away from action figures and toward electronics. Makes more sense to market heavily to the under 7 crowd if the statistics show that the 'over 7 and plays with action figures' demo is pretty small.Faceless wrote: Sadly, nowadays, something for kids is synonymous with something "preschool". Yikes. Sometimes I wonder how designs like those can make it through so many people and get approved.

The good thing is, when your face is obscured by a frosted faceplate, people can’t tell if you’ve shaved off your mustache or not.

Hard to believe that's regular Man at Arms for this line. Looks like an underwater version or something. It also looks like Samus Aran.

Re: New MOTU Kids' Line
I really, really hate everything about every design element for this show/line. But that's okay. It's not for me. My son thinks they look pretty cool, although he's decided less enthusiastic about these as he is about Origins and Masterverse. Maybe that says that 'for kids' doesn't necessarily mean 'kids will like this -better-' or maybe it shows my own kid is a bit biased toward stuff his dad likes. Who knows.
I hope these do well, though. We all know Mattel will take ANY bad sales for this entire brand as proof that people don't like MOTU and then they'll stop making anything for the next 8 years.

Re: New MOTU Kids' Line
Haha... so I came home from work and showed my son the trailer. He had originally liked the design of the toys. His reaction to the trailer was pretty great. Deadpan the entire time and then just 'well, that looked terrible.' I tried to press him a little bit on what he liked and didn't like and he genuinely didn't like anything about it. Said the entire cartoon looks bad and he doesn't want to watch it.

I just saw the trailer, and I really liked it, looks promising. Very different that the original, maybe too sci-fi... Hopefully my son will be into it. The playability of the toys looks great. The only criticism I have is that the plastic looks cheap and He-Mans tiny head design looks horrible.

Re: New MOTU Kids' Line
I thought the trailer looked like a lot of fun. They seem to be playing with the idea that magic is returning to a sci-fi place. The toys and designs clearly aren't aimed at me, but I may give the show a watch.
