I was really glad to hear they are already mapping out up to Wave 14. Glad the line is doing well and not going anywhere.

It's planned, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's doing as well as it was to start with. I still think Wave 10 is going to be a rocky road for them.

While it's interesting that they'd go this far to rectify something (What a shock, voting with your wallet actually gets companies doing unliked stuff to reconsider, I wish that also worked with S7's plastic qualities and articulation limitations) and I'm ultimately glad fans are getting what they're wanting...at the same time it's at the cost of a pretty nice-looking rendition of Rat King. Majority, minority or otherwise it definitely shows how much of a vice grip nostalgia has on certain lines. Deviate or reinvent a bit too far and people will start pushing back hard. It's sad.

Hope they consider an alternate head in their original design's style to at least please both parties. Vintage purists don't have to use it, those who liked the design still get a chance at it.

I mean... not to everyone... It's bad news for me, someone who was excited about the new look Rat King and hopeful that a pivot away from Playmates replicas would result in more figures I actually wanted to purchase. Alas

Hot King looked like a cool figure so a total cancellation is a little sad. But if they include a single Hot King alternate head as a shoutout to the people who liked the design, that'd probably satisfy everyone.

As the number one biggest supporter of Hot Rat King, I’m just gonna say it:

They can shove any compromise “and you still get a single Wave 10 head so everyone wins!” right up their buttholes.

Put that tooling budget towards alternate heads in the Playmates style, STOP MAKING ACCESSORIES MADE TO THROWN IN A BIN AND NEVER LOOKED AT AGAIN FOR ‘THE LOLS!’ You pay for alt heads with your $60! They’re not cute li’l freebies, they cost money and the cost is passed on to you!

Look, I’m not upset other people are getting the Rat King *they* want, I was actively hoping Super7 would work something out to get them *their* Rat King, happy for you guys… I’m upset though this new Rat King is coming at the expense of *MY* Rat King, that I get NOTHING because Super7 !@#$ up!

But I’m not spending $60 on just a head, the bones and bugs open sores Rat King disgust me, putting Hot Rat King’s head on that body is as offensively wrong as putting bug eyed bald melted face Rat King’s head on Hot Rat King’s body and calling it “the Playmates homage you all wanted!”

Right now, I’m just hoping it’s ACTUALLY a Playmates Rat King, so everyone else can be happy about this. If it’s just a new set of ugly heads that don’t look like the old figure and some off brand copies of the original accessories, then no one is happy and they screwed over me and the few people who liked the original figure for nothing!

Nostalgia has a vise grip on this particular line because the entire proposition of the line was nostalgia for the original toys. That was the main idea, that's why people bought in.

Super7 decided to do this take on Rat King, going against the whole idea of this line, pivoting away from the old Playmates look--without explanation, without comment.... They just threw it out there without a word, and expected people to simply buy it anyway. Maybe they thought nobody would notice the change. Maybe they were afraid to face the music. Again, this take on Rat King marks a departure from the core tenet of this line. They should have known people would be upset over it and they should have been forthcoming about the reasoning behind the choice if they wanted people to understand it--much less buy it.


EDIT: Now I can't escape the thought of Neca announcing, without fanfare or comment, a sexy anime Professor Perry for their realistic movie line. Heh heh.

I'm happy with the news. Excited to see what wave 11 entails, which will probably provide a bit of clarity. I do hope they throw these modern heads in for those that really wanted them.

I thought it was interesting that Brian specifically called out the accessories as being difficult. That made me think the reports of them getting away with the figure due to him appearing in other media were true, but the playmates specific accessories are a no go unless they can work something out. Brian also mentioned someone recently released a Rat King. Neca's was quite a while ago. Did Playmates reissue the vintage one?

I continue to think Brian / Super7 are genuinely doing their best for the consumer, and really appreciate these interviews he does. Other than maybe the 4Horsemen, no one else is even close to giving as much insight into the goings on of making toys today.

Ultimately (see what I did there!) and personally I still just want Ground Chuck, Hot Head, Pizza Face, and hopefully a Panda Khan. I know everyone's got their favorites, but those would be mine. Veebs mentioned the unmade punk frogs in the interview. I'd be game for more stuff like that too. I still would like a Sgt. Bananas, but I'm excited for Guerilla Gorilla too.

@veebs @Robo @benty - Any chance we could get a Fwoosh poll for characters we'd like to see. I know it's already planned for future waves, but might be fun to see what folks are really hoping for.

I started looking at the old figures on a database out of boredom, and I think they could technically recreate the Village People except for the leather daddy as Turtles variants (construction worker would be one of the weird transformers things they did, but still)

I have the dead cat belt model. I don't have a 3D scanner so I might have to make the others.

But in case you missed it, Flynn said they're canceling wave 10 Rat King orders and replacing him with Karai... And they'll be redoing Rat King for wave 11 closer to the toy. So we'll see what it looks like then.

My friend has a scanner.

And I did read, but I'd still like to be prepared anyway, just in case.

Plus, like I said, it will be nice practice. (Of course, I still need to take the first course of making a donut, lol)
