Soooooo happy to see all this stuff. That's all the stuff that leaked, except for that Rulers of the Sun 3 Pack. I don't remember ever hearing about it. But I want all of that stuff.

Plus, 5 more characters to knock off from the vintage line with Spikor, Moss Man, Squeeze, Snake Face, and DB Skeletor. So, just 16 more to go after that.

At work and cannot really nose around. Is the Snake Mountain MOTUC sized or smaller? I'd really like a Snake Mountain but not one original old school sized I guess.

I have to find the people that make displays for conventions and get a custom Snake Mountain set up. If this one is too small.

Holy crud... I try to limit my Origins purchases to new characters but these reveals are going to get me. Generic Snake Men multi-pack is an absolute Yes, please. Rulers of the Sun 3-pack - absolutely I have been all in on that Sub-Line so can't wait. The skeletons 2-pack is another absolute must have.

Lots of great reveals that I'm super eager to get my hands on.

Is it “bias” to have observed Neitlich for well over a decade, and to come to conclusions about his actions, demeanor, and (lack of) integrity?
“Bias: prejudice in favor of or against one thing, person, or group compared with another, usually in a way considered to be unfair.”
That is *not* the same as what is going on with Neitlich. Whether the line ends at some point or not, he’s been promoting his own agenda on a bed of lies since at least 2008, even and especially when he was working for Mattel. That’s not a case for bias: that is a proven track record of deliberate untruths and self-aggrandizing. There is an enormous difference between “I have arbitrarily decided to be biased against this guy” versus “after long and careful observation, I have concluded that this guy is a liar and a self-promoter”.

Neitlich isn’t just a stopped clock who might be right twice a day. He’s a clock *deliberately* and misleadingly set to the wrong time. Reality might at some point align with his “look at me” bullsh!t, but that wouldn’t make him “right”: just consistent.
He's 100% a self promoter and has been very disingenuous since he was working at Mattel. But he hasn't been saying MOTU or MOTUO is dying for years. This is the part people are blatantly twisting.

Here's what he's said in general order:

That MOTUO is piggybacking off the Netflix show
He's been saying he fears for the line because kids haven't been growing to it
A line isn't sustainable at retail when kids aren't into it
Signs of retail line trouble is with lack or corporate transparency and official marketing
Some BS about Universal owning the rights to MOTU (irrelevant to this toy conversation)
The line is dying in 2023 at retail
The line is dead for a fact around March/April 2023

Collector Con comes and goes, the last announcement about Moss Man being a Walmart exclusive suddenly vanishes. No retail presence anywhere. No official marketing announcements anywhere. Mattel is literally scraping the bottom of the barrel and is using Influencers to promote this line most likely at Mattel Creation, EE and BBTS. It's also fishy how there are no pre-order announcements at Amazon or Target. Mattel is probably struggling to move their products and find distribution. People are still in denial? Come on.

With that said, I love love all the new reveals. I could not care less if they show up online or at retail. But I do worry that they will be much more expensive and harder to track down now in 2023. And we may not see anything in 2024.

Tell you what: I’m happy to listen to any *credible* source.

It is entirely reasonable for Neitlich to be considered not credible. It is not reasonable to assume that *suddenly* in the last couple of years Neitlich has become selectively credible while still remaining a slimy, self-aggrandizing toad who lies about . . . everything *but* this? I mean: it’s possible. But I’m gonna need to see some *actual* sources, not just this guy.

I'm going to assume by your evasive non-answer that no, you do not have any credible sources that say it's not doing well. I don't have to provide any sources for it 'doing well.' It exists and is being sold in stores. If you want to assert that such will no longer be the case in the near future - provide sources.

mattmurdog wrote: Some people are just in denial and some people just hate Scott so much out of their own personal biases that they will do whatever they can to discredit the man despite all mounting momentum that's visible through retail distribution and planogram planning. Scott has literally said the line is dead at retail but everyone just wants to twist his words into something more spiteful. They are honestly no different than anti-vaxxers and people who think the moon landing was faked.
No one is in denial. In fact, it's been stated multiple times that the line very well COULD end at any time. No one knows. And everyone is absolutely fine with that fact. Without credible sources that something is wrong, or that the line is ending, we just carry on assuming it's continuing like we do every other line that we collect. No one is saying 'it WILL NOT end.' We're saying 'the only person saying it will end is not a credible source.' Seems -really- simple to understand.

In your (shitty) analogy; Scott is the anti-vaxxer. He's the one that's been constantly spouting nonsense and getting people worked up and convinced of his bullshit since the beginning. And people just carry on believing him for reasons I will never understand. Or reasons I do understand that I'm far, far, far too polite to say. (That part was a joke, we all know I'm not polite.)

It's also interesting that in your rush to defend Scott (which you really seem invested in), you forget the part where he said the line would never go beyond the 8-back characters because it's just a filler line that Mattel has no plans to continue. He has -absolutely- been saying since the beginning that the line was dead in the water and would not continue. Since it started. Every few months. That's why he's not credible. Or, at least, one of the many many many many many reasons he's not credible.

Scott has a select group of very credulous people lined up to shout 'SCOTT WAS RIGHT' the moment this line ends, who are already proving they will intentionally ignore how many times he was wrong saying the same thing. He's like all those religious doomsday lunatics shouting that the world is ending this year. Oh whoops. I meant next year. Ooh, actually, it was the year after. He's a dipshit and it's really sad to see people still taking him seriously in the least bit.

.

The new characters/figures look really great. I'm pretty sad that they're still not showing Extendar, though. Wasn't he on the leaked list? He's one of the last ones I really -need- before the line does eventually end.

I like some of the stuff shown. Glad I don’t already have Snake-Armor He-Man, as that multipack is awesome for Snakemen army building. Squeeze, Snake-face, and Spikor. Flocked Moss Man. And then a bunch of the Skeleton 2pks for me. Wish I liked the Snake Trooper more, but I’m not a fan of mainly black figures in MOTU.

Even if Origins becomes online only, I’m fine with it. As long as it remains alive. Although, I see my interest reducing to only a few figures after this pictured lineup.

I wish there was an alt version of the skeleton troops where they aren't GiD. GiD is fun and all but you lose a lot of the detail in the sculpts with that plastic. Scareglow has a bunch of paint detail so he's good to go - these guys don't. And yeah I know, there's not a ton of sculpting there to begin with, I just know these guys will look like white blobs on my shelf as-is.

Maybe I'll finally have a go at painting something.

I noticed they gave Moss Man a new vintage inspired head that looks much better. Really excited for him, but do wish they flocked the back of his hands.

As a Canadian I am hoping the line maintains a presence on retail shelves to some degree because online is frustrating for two reasons. One it isn't in quantities that make it easy to get if you don't jump on preorders right away and...Two the price gets exponentially higher as time moves on. Right now Origins is hovering around the $25 for a single, non-deluxe, figure. Mattel Creations is higher at $27. Deluxes are between $35-$40. Then the Mattel Creations only stuff is much worse. For whatever reason Mattel Creations uses a #$#@ exchange rate. The He-Man 4 pack is $150US, but for Canadians it is $225Cdn which is about $20 more than it should be with the current exchange rate.

Walmart was at least still at only $23 for regular Origins so keeping them on shelves would be a bit of savings.

As for what has been shown today:

Loved seeing so much product. Definite highlights were the Snake Men 4 pack and the GITD Skeleton Warriors. Just not looking forward to the cost. Also nice to see more of the original cast getting figures.

The only real downside to me what Masterverse. MAN!! They have upped their game since those early waves. The reveals today definitely gave Origins a run for it's money, and in some cases I would say even outshone Origins.

They just crowd funded a whole damn Eternia playset. I don't see this line suddenly evaporating. Maybe I'm naive.

Digging the new reveals -- pardon the pun, but is there an "origin" for the version of Skeletor that comes with Screech?

I don't see the line itself disappearing entirely, but maybe disappearing from regular retail is a possibility. I know any note on poorer performance is trashed as anecdotal, but does anyone actually have a consistently decent retail experience with either Origins or Masterverse? Figures either never show up or the figures that do show up rot on constant minimum 30% off sales or fail to disappear on clearance. I never saw Masterverse Wave 2 at retail, but I've also never seen anything beyond wave 3 at brick and mortar. I have been lucky to find the deluxes for the most part, but they sold a couple and then they just continued to rot. The same applies generally to origins. Nothing past the Jitsu wave.
