Same at my stores. I don't really worry until around May/June as this is inventory time of year. Hell a few years back a Target was in doing inventory until October. Stores aren't really hiring the most motivated people since the pandemic!
Nah it's not that in any way, shape, or form. Nobody is going to put up with being treated like trash for minimum wage anymore and that's a good thing. Especially the younger generation. Target treats their employees terribly just like Walmart. Pay minimum wage get minimum wage effort.

So anyway how about them dinosaurs? That new The Lost World Mercedes SUV and Malcolm set looks awesome. I'm thinking the new "Bull" Rex is based on the 1993 "Big Red" mold? Still looks too small. I guess that previous TLW green Rex we got could be the "Doe."

It's weird how most Amber Collection or Hammond Collection figures are easily available and eventually get clearanced out, but others sell out. Amber Collection dilophosaurus shouldn't have sold out, but it did and went to crazy pricing on the aftermarket. Gallimimus is doing that now in the Hammond Collection. I don't see those two being highly desirable dinos aside from the potential of Gallimumus as an army builder, so my assumption is that Mattel forecasted the same thing and just underproduced both of them.

It's hard to say, really. With the exception of the handful of named/specific dinos, like Blue, the Raptor Squad, Atrociraptors, Bumpy, etc. you could technically army-build any of them. The Dilophosaurus has always been a fan favorite- you had people begging for it to be included in another movie after the OG, and it took until the final movie to get a true appearance (aside from the hologram in JW). I know a bunch of people, myself included, who got 2 HC Dilos- one to keep the frill on, the other with the frill off. I know some who got even more than that, so they could recreate the scene from Dominion. Just because we may only see a certain number of any dino on screen, it's not hard to imagine there's a pack of them running around out there somewhere, and a lot of collectors like to reflect that, or they buy some extra to customize. Dino toys have always sold well- even before JP, and the films have only boosted the numbers. They capture the imagination of kids and adults alike, and with something like the Hammond Collection, you have them made well at a pretty affordable price. It's not hard to see at all why the HC dinos sell out.

Almost every time I've seen them on shelves, it seems like there's enough to last about a month- whether that's because word hasn't gotten out yet or they come well stocked, but I almost always see at least one or two on the shleves that first month after a sighting, and then after that, nothing. Maaaaybe the odd repack/return here or there, but rarely, if anything, ever beyond that. Heck, I went to my local Target yesterday, and even the basic assortment dinos had been mostly bought out. There was a fair amount last week, and when I went yesterday, there were maybe 2 or 3 total on the shelves (not counting the bigger multipacks/sets). Your milage may vary, of course, but even when there's not a new movie coming out, people love them some dinos.

Good points about dilophosaurus, so I went and checked and yep, the Hammond Collection version is sold out now and aftermarket prices are rising.

I typically buy multiples of the dinos and humans that have interchangeable parts so I can have all the looks. I did buy 3 of the JP raptors for obvious reasons and you gotta have more than one Galimimus. I just have one of the male JP3 raptors, not sure if I'll get more. I think a male and the female from the Amazon set will do me on that front.

I've started seeing that RealFX Baby Blue animatronic popping up at some stores. Never spotted it before. Seems like a pretty cool design. If it ever goes on sale I'd grab one of them.

Was supposed to get my JP3 set yesterday, but it looks like it hit a snag in delivery (which can only mean Billy Brennan is up to his egg stealing antics again). Should be here this weekend, though, barring any further snags. Since watching Collect Jurassic's unboxing video, I'm doubly excited. Say what you want about the movie itself, but JP3's raptors are by far my favorite designs. I'll forever be bummed we never got the female raptor in the Amber Collection, and I'm not talented enough to customize one for myself, so this is a lovely treat.

Except the doe was a Carmel brown/white mix in the film. The HC Rex is a much closer match. In fact the HC Rex is more accurate to the Doe than Rexy herself because Rexy was a two-toned beige

Guess I can use the extra HC Rexy from the "When you gotta go, you gotta go." set as the doe. Just curious how big this new green one will be. I can already surmise that the HC baby Rex will be far too big but it looks great and gives us the bandages. I know it's not scientifically accurate but the Bull we saw was a lot bigger so I want a figure that at least can be bigger than a HC Rex.

Lost World is probably the one film I had the least time micro-analyzing. I am glad to see more product coming from it though. Honestly I think I've only seen it a handful of times including when it was at theaters. I don't think it's bad but it's the most forgettable in the series for me.

Has there been any indication when the next Hammond Collection wave will go up for pre-order?

Actually I think the darker two toned Rex might work better for Rexy because that darker color scheme really matches Rexy’s color, outside of the bleach white underbelly. That was a step too far by Mattel. Here are Rexy’s actual colors when compared to the doe

Rexy
Image

Doe
Image

So as it’s depicted here, Rexy is more of a dark brown/tan while the doe is considered to be light brown/white. Also there are further differences in that Rexy is predominantly covered in spots and blemishes and has a series of dark brown/black stripes that extend from her antorbital finestra, and end at the tip of her tail. Whereas the doe has a lighter set of stripes going down her backside and a darker set of stripes going down the front of her legs

Also while both the Buck and the doe we’re predominantly shown at night in TLW, there was hardly any way to tell what color the doe’s skin actually was because Spielberg was such an advocate for having the animals backlit and wanting the color of their skin to be desaturated for added realism. So when it comes to the CG model of the doe, we only have one image to speak of in the movie and the colors are washed out because she is in bright, bleached out sunlight and is almost a grayish color; thanks in no small part to those desaturated hues

Image

That’s the doe on the left. Even the Buck is desaturated but we know from other sources that his color was more of a heavy saturated green. Much closer to this.

Got my JP3 set yesterday. Only had a quick little minute to mess around with it, but I quite like it! It's the same Grant as the regular release, just painted differently and with different accessories. Each of the packs fit nicely on Grant, but getting them both on at the same time like in the photos is wonky (if possible? I haven't found a way to make it not look super weird yet). I do really like that the black shoulder bag is actually designed to hold the eggs, so less worry about them getting lost. The female raptor is great- I know not everyone loves the color scheme because it's (perhaps?) not entirely screen accurate, but I quite like it. It really pops on the shelf. It's almost entirely the same figure as the original HC Raptor, except for the headsculpt. Really looking foward to finally getting the male JP3 raptor and having them side by side.

I know JP3 doesn't always get the most love, but I hope we continue getting figures for it. I know the Corythosaurus is on the way. I hope we get a Pteranodon. I'd even take a Billy, especially now that we have the eggs. My biggest wish is a HC Spino. I'd even take the Kirbys and Udesky if we ever get around to them. Make a box set with sound so Amanda can scream and yell constantly, and if you hook up the Spino, it plays the satellite phone jingle. :D

I want more HC Gallis, darnit, lol.

I'd also like multiples of the JP3 HC female Raptor, so that really sucks she's stuck in that currently being scalped two pack.

Also, Muldoon & Arnold HC are on clearance. Still no new dinos (like the JP3 male Raptor, that I just want one of). :|

Still holding out for a Super Colossal Spino...
