Review – Masters of the Universe Classics Adora

What do you get if Leia had been Raised By the Emperor and as she matured was made into the leader of his personal squadron of elite guards? You get Adora, the Princess with the fluffy name but nerves of steel.

Unlike Prince Adam, whose quasi Clark Kent/Billy Batson role means he cowers, runs away and hides a lot and is generally ineffective until he raises his sword and says his magic words, Adora is a buttkicker even before becoming the most powerful woman in the Universe. Captain of Hordak’s force squad, eventual leader of the rebellion against Hordak…yeah, no cowering here. Plus there’s the bonus of never having actually made out with her brother. That always helps during story time at family reunions.

As the first of the Princess of Power figures, Adora is a great representative of what to expect as they dig further into that particular spin-off universe. Without the rooted hair and fabric of the original line, she serves as the introduction of characters that have been unfortunately lumped into “frilly girl’s toys” category right into the MotUC Aesthetic, and looks great side by side with the rest.

For fans of the cartoon of original toyline or both, She’s got a headsculpt that should make fans happy. She looks like Adora, in sculpt, paint and hair. Can’t ask for more than that.

Bodywise, like Teela and the Goddess before her, she lacks a torso crunch, since the females so far share the same body. But she gains much more motion in her waist due to the increased flexibility in her skirt. Combined with the excellent ankle range and all the other articulation points that come standard with these figures, she has no trouble getting into a wide variety of poses.

The line has been great at appropriate accessories, and Adora comes with her Sword of Protection, or what in the new Mythology is described as a cloned Sword of He which has been fitted with a Stone of Protection. In addition, she comes equipped with a laser pistol which fits into her holster. Mine has no trouble holding either weapon in either hand, so she can slice and blast whichever way she feels like it.

Adora sold out pretty quickly (understatement), and a lot of people who didn’t automatically receive her as part of their subscription may have passed on her, either to wait for She-Ra or complete disinterest in PoP figures, but I think she’s a great looking figure that really spruces up the display and adds a nice touch of diversity to the collection.
