First Look – Masters of the Universe Classics Man-at-Arms

Do we have a ton of treats for you Mattel Fans! Toy Guru and Matty have sent along a ton of brand new stuff for us to preview for you over the next few days. That’s right: this week going to be a MOTUC and DCUC attack! We aren’t going to spoil all of the surprises, just stay tuned right here this week for several First Looks. Leading the charge though is Eternia’s resident Man-at-Arms: Man-at-Arms! Or Duncan if you are on close terms. Read on to see a slew of pictures of the Mustachioed Master of the Universe.

There is a small but proud brotherhood of manly men that look complete with that small strip of hair just below the nose…

In a time where we often point out the social faux pas of that special bit of facial hair, the mustache, there are a select few that go against the grain. Burt Reynolds. Tom Selleck. Rollie Fingers. Sam Elliot. Duncan. While some may shy away from the old “cookie duster” these are men that are completely out of place without their famous ‘staches, which brings me to my point: my Man-at-Arms has a mustache.

Fortunately, Matty was looking out for me and fans of the sans-mustache original toy by including two different heads in their July figure. I loved the old toy as a kid, but being a fan of the ‘toon as well, I always thought there was something off about how the figure did not have his mustache. This is just the tip of the iceberg as far as the new Man-at-Arms figure is concerned; as cliche as it is starting to sound, the MOTUC line keeps getting better and better.

I know, I know, you are here for the pictures, but let me say this: Duncan might just be the best overall figure that Mattel has done so far. I know I said this of Hordak last month, and even though most people don’t have their Hector figure yet, I am here to tell you that he is probably already out done. I am confident in saying that Mer-Man and Hordak are still my preferred figures as far as character goes, but MAA cannot be denied for great piece of plastic that he is.

All of the niceties of the ’80s figure is here, and like the MOTUC figures that have come before him, EVERYTHING is improved upon.

He has four, FOUR accessories in the form of various weapons (sword, pistol, 200x Power Sword and patented mace) as well as detachable armor in four pieces (chest, arm, gauntlet, and leg). The Eternian Master of Weapons is aptly named, MAA is stacked and the amount of detail and care that went into this figure is really a credit to the Four Horsemen and Mattel- you get your money’s worth with this figure, there is no denying that.

Another great thing about this figure is that it lends itself to army-building. I plan on adding at least two more of these figures to my collection- one with the trademark mustache for Duncan and two more (‘stache removed) for Eternian guards.

So, I hope that the pictures do most of the talking for this figure. Hordak sold out in about an hour on Monday and I truly expect for MAA to follow suit. Be on www.mattycollector.com right on time on July 15th. This figure is the real deal and might be the best overall figure Mattel has done. Maybe ever. Seriously.

*As alway, many humble thanks to Matty and Toy Guru for making this review possible and stay tuned later this week- we have several more First Looks for you to check out. Thanks for reading!
