Detective Somerset is only a week away from retiring from his job at a New York City precinct. Detective Mills recently transferred to the city and is anxious to pick up where Somerset leaves off. Both detectives soon find themselves on the trail of a vicious serial killer that chooses his victims according to the seven deadly sins. Methodical, exacting and grotesquely creative, the killer, "John Doe", has planned each murder down to the finest detail. As Somerset and Mills close in, John Doe patiently awaits the final confrontation, determined to complete his bloody masterpiece of terror.

DETECTIVE SOMERSET

Detective Lieuteneant Somerset (Morgan Freeman) is a week away from retirement after many years of dealing with the destitution and apathy bred within the grimy and forlorn city. During this time, he is partnered with Detective Seargent Mills (Brad Pitt), an arrogant but inexperienced detective who just transferred into the department from somewhere outside the metropolis. The two men are at odds with each other almost immediately; Mills is brash, temperamental, and lets his anger get the better of him, in stark contrast to Somerset’s analytical and introspective personality and methods.

Detective Lt. William Somerset features nine points of articulation and comes with a service revolver accessory.

DETECTIVE MILLS

Detective Sgt. David Mills has talked his reluctant wife, Tracy (Gwyneth Paltrow), into moving to the big city so that he can tackle important cases, but his first and Somerset’s last are more than either man has bargained for. A diabolical serial killer is staging grisly murders, choosing victims representing the seven deadly sins. When they visit Doe’s apartment, Doe arrives and opens fire at them down the hall, starting an open-fire chase. Later, Doe manages to strike Mills to the ground. With Mills completely vulnerable, Doe presses the barrel of his gun to Mills’s head. A few seconds pass and Doe decides not to shoot him, leaving him battered and bloody.

Detective Sgt. David Mills features twelve points of articulation and comes with his service firearm.

POLICE CAPTAIN

Overseeing the hunt for John Doe is the Police Captain. An experienced officer, he has no time for Somerset’s self-imposed retirement nor Mills’ inexperience in the big city. After Somerset discovers the word GLUTTONY written in grease on the wall behind the refrigerator back at the first crime scene, he begins to suspect that the two crimes are related, and tells Mills and the captain that there will likely be five more murders, each patterned after one of the remaining five of the seven deadly sins. Lust, Pride, Sloth, Wrath, and Envy. The Captain organizes a task force to hunt the likely serial killer.

The Police Captain features six points of articulation and comes with the John Doe case files as accessories.

JOHN DOE

As Detectives Mills and Somerset return to police headquarters, they are confronted in the lobby by a man whose hands and shirt are covered in blood from three sources: his own, from the continual cutting off of his finger tips; a model who became the victim of the "PRIDE" killing; and an as yet unidentified victim. This man is soon confirmed to be "John Doe". The Police Captain describes Doe as "independently wealthy, well-educated and totally insane," but when Somerset tries to tease any personal information out him, Doe claims that who he is "doesn’t matter." Doe has created a completely blank identity for himself; there are no clues to his real identity in his apartment, his bank account was started with cash and he has no employment records. Doe is revolted by the self-glorification of a sinful world. He believes, that the human race in the divine scheme of things is a pathetic shadow of what we could have been, if we had not Fallen.

John Doe features six points of articulation.

DETECTIVE SOMERSET

Detective Lt. William Somerset originally began as a reworking of the Dr. Loomis Halloween figure. Unfortunately, that proved to be too tall for the rest of the group, so this first attempt was abandoned. "The Old Man" from NECA’s "A Christmas Story" proved to be a better bit. I removed the arms from The Old Man and hollowed out the shoulder areas, creating large cavities in the side of the torso. I then removed the arms from the torso of Dr. Loomis, making sure to retain the surronding torso area to allow for articulated shoulders. After inserting this into the shoulders of The Old Man, I patched the seams with a combination of Magic Sculpt and Kneadatite. The head is reworked from a McFarlane Magic Johnson NBA figure while the hat comes from a Now Playing DARKMAN figure. The trenchcoat is taken from Dr. Loomis as well, and the majority of surface details were created using Magic Sculpt.

DETECTIVE MILLS

Detective Sgt. David Mills began as a NECA Reservoir Dogs Mr. Blonde figure. I felt the legs felt too scrawny for Mills, though, so I replaced them with those from a Star Trek Nemesis Picard figure. The jacket comes from a Vampire Xander Buffy the Vampire Slayer figure, while the headsculpt is scaled down from a Hot Toys Brad Pitt 12" scale sculpt The belt was transplanted from a random figure I had in the parts box. For all the kitbashing involved, the parts blend together fairly seamlessly.

POLICE CAPTAIN

The Police Captain is a reworked NECA Patrick Bateman "American Psycho" figure. The jacket was sliced apart and refitted to lay open. The right arm was then sliced at the elbow and reworked to be in a more straight position. Magic Sculpt was used to fill in the large gap where the elbow once was. Magic Sculpt was also used to create the tie, hankerchief, police badge and hair. The headsculpt is taken from a Sideshow Toys "Dress Blues" R. Lee Ermey figure, scaled down with Hydroshrink to the appropriate size.

JOHN DOE

John Doe is a reworked NECA Shaun of the Dead action figure. The hands were replaced with those from a Star Trek Nemesis Data figure, I believe, while the head is scaled down from a Superman Returns Lex Luthor minibust. Magic Sculpt was used to create the finger bandages as well as the new collar on the shirt.
